Human Rights Ruling Being Challenged In Court

Dear Community Members,

This is a very important notice and we would greatly appreciate it if you could forward it far and wide!

As many of you maybe aware local Community Advocate, Bob Brown has launched a Human Rights complaint against the (NCC) National Capital Commission and Public Works regarding the York Street Staircase, sighting discrimination against persons with disabilities. This case deals with the lack of accommodation within the built environment for persons with disabilities and with the duty to consult widely with the disabled community.

The Human Rights Tribunal had ruled in favour of Bob Brown. However, the NCC & the Public Works have asked for a judicial review in the Federal Court in order to squash the decision .

As this is a precedent setting case it is extremely important to have as many persons with disabilities in attendance. Bob Brown will be represented by his Lawyer while the Council of Canadians with Disabilities and the Human Rights Commission will be representing the public interest!

This Court Case is to commence on Monday April 7th and could go until Thursday April 10th. If you could come on Monday and/or Tuesday at least, it would be great. Again it is extremely important that the Judge presiding over this case sees that there is strong support for this case.

The details are as follow:

Thank you and have a good day!
